Registrations and Regulations
We are often asked questions about dog and cat registration and Local Government regulations regarding pet ownership. Here is some information and links that may answer some of these questions.
Dog Registration
All dogs must be registered with the Sunshine Coast Regional Council every year and wear a council-issued registration tag when in public. This assists council to reunite dogs with their owners should they become separated.
Cat Registration
All cats must be registered annually with the Sunshine Coast Regional Council and wear a council-issued registration tag when in public. This will assist council to identify and reunite cats with their owners should they become separated.

Microchipping of cats and dogs requirements are now in effect on the Sunshine Coast. This fact sheet provides more information about microchipping of your cat or dog. Reduced registration charges can apply to microchipped cats and dogs.
